The Craving and Craziness for meaty foods!
I was on a business visit to an IT company and happen to spend time during lunch hours in one of their spacious vast cafeteria, serving bunch of cuisines, right from tender coconut, steamed peanuts to non-vegetarian delights. I was just sitting their sipping my fruit juice and watching the food choices and eating habits of hundred of young techies working in IT companies.
This was a great opportunity for us to study, analyze food / health trend amongst young Indians. The Food Counters with appetizing menu, were brimming with young women and men. 5-10% (super health conscious) of them were with their own lunch bag, enjoying simple curd rice or sambar rice with poriyal. 90% of the population their depend on these cafeterias for breakfast, lunch, tea time snacks etc.
Out of those 90%, only 10-15% were vegetarians. The queue across Chicken counters was just getting bigger. Aromatic biryanis and chicken dishes were their favorite..no doubt!
I was wondering what could be the reason for this crave (craziness) for meaty, greasy food? The working environment (here more of mental work than physical) and the food we eat should match so that we do not put our body into strain to digest heavy food. Having said that, young women and men prefer chicken over vegetarian food. Outside food is not only oily, greasy, cholesterol and salt-rich but also equally unhealthy! Eating it daily will only make the body get tired, and push it towards sickness at some point of time.
Healthy and balanced food intake is the key to happy and fit life. If your food is rich in nutrients and minerals, your body will be in “contentment mode”, your heart will not crave for unhealthy food. This is my experience. Satisfied and Happy Tummy = Fit life!
